Faces

Armed with an arsenal of guitars, keyboards, laptops, drums, and projectors, Crushed Ice is changing the soundscape of live music through a fusion of music and technology. The Atlanta group had been performing in various groups together and separately since 2008, but not until 2012, did they decide to sever all previous musical connections and pursue the creation of a musical act that would truly showcase their expertise in musical composition and technological wizardry. Previous electronica-based groups have attempted to fuse laptop loops with live instruments, but often the result was a series of infinite loops that numbed the brains and ears of concertgoers. However, Crushed Ice has devised a way to generate loops on stage while maintaining the live feel of the show by relying upon custom human-to-laptop interfaces, live instruments, and each other. Knowing full well the complimentary nature of visual imagery to musical sound waves, Crushed Ice generates on-the-fly video that is triggered via their auditory queues, smartphones, foot controllers, and Kinect sensors. Crushed Ice’s engrossing hip hop beats, screaming guitar solos, and technological coordination culminate in a musical experience that will move the feet and tear at the soul.
